Why this term exists

A semantic field is organized around represented meanings. A semonic field asks a different question: what relational organization allows meaning-capable response before or beyond symbolic representation?

Definition in the system

The distinction is deliberate: semonic is not semantic. Semonic Fields are used in Semonika to investigate relational topology, coupling and consequence where language may be absent, incomplete or secondary.

A semonic field can include similarity, complementarity, attraction, detraction, timing and readiness. The field is therefore not defined by one force or one kind of resemblance. Its identity comes from the pattern of relations that can carry consequence through the system.

The concept is useful as a bridge between biological examples, cognitive systems, texts and engineered systems, but its scope must be tested domain by domain rather than assumed to be universal.

Example

The young is hungry. The mother responds. No explicit word for “hunger” is required for a meaningful relation to organize a response.

What it is not

A semonic field is not a semantic field, and it is not a claim that a new physical field has already been experimentally established.
