Attention

Pažnja
Canonical MonkOS term

The operational resource by which experience is selected from noise and given enough duration to influence the next state.

Attention does not merely observe a flow; allocating attention changes which parts of the flow can persist.

Why this term exists

Information abundance makes selection unavoidable. Attention gives MonkOS its primary scarce resource: what receives duration, comparison and response capacity.

Definition in the system

Attention can be deliberate or captured. MonkOS focuses on increasing the operator’s ability to distinguish those cases and recover initiative when attention is being dispersed or externally steered.

Attention is coupled to signal, noise and latency. A strong signal that arrives outside the available attention window may not affect action; a weak but repeated stimulus can capture attention without carrying useful meaning.

The framework therefore treats attention as ecological: interfaces, environments and relationships shape how it is distributed.

Example

Two identical notifications can have different effects depending on whether the user is in a focused task, waiting for the message, or already overloaded.

What it is not

Attention is not only visual focus and is not automatically equivalent to value.

Formal / operational note

MonkOS models may represent an attention state Ψ(t) and define ΔΨ as a consequential change in that state.
